When you cannot be there for a family member in hospital, Calgary Elder Care can bridge the gap. Hospitals cannot provide one-on-one care. Delayed response from staff, dementia, disorientation and medications, contribute to the possibility of falls, inadequate food intake, inadequate re-positioning and depression.
We can act as your advocate for your loved one when busy schedules make it difficult for you to be there. We know that being at the hospital bedside of a loved one 24/7 can be physically and emotionally draining, and can often be physically impossible due to work and family commitments.
Our caregivers serve as companions and added assistance. They will supply vital information on your loved one’s care, condition and emotional and physical needs.
Calgary Elder Care can provide hourly or 24/7 assistance with:
- Assist with personal care
- Assist with meals/feeding to ensure proper nutrition and fluids
- Provide companionship, socialization
- Monitor pain/communicate needs to staff
- Supervise client (ie. IV’s stay in place, client stays in bed)
- Seek help from hospital staff when needed
- Communicate with family and other care providers
Personal Hospital Support
Hospital staff do their best to see to your needs, but hospitals are often stretched for resources and staff. When you require more individual care and attention, we can help. Calgary Elder Care can provide supplemental care to ensure that your loved one is safe and well cared for. We can also help with discharge and transition to care at home, reducing the chance of having to return to the hospital, and allowing for less stress for you and your family.
Planned Hospital Stay:
Those having surgery often know that they will need help during their recovery, but most often underestimate how much help they will actually require. This can be an exhausting and stressful time for family, emotionally and physically. Having the right care in place can prevent further problems, ensure the client is safe, reduce the hospital stay and most often speeds recovery.
Calgary Elder Care’s caregivers can assist with a variety of personal care services, such as; showering, dressing, eating, walking, toileting, companionship and socialization. They can also be an effective advocate in communicating concerns to hospital staff and family.
Unplanned Hospital Stay:
Those that have experienced a fall, injury or other crisis are often unprepared for the stress, anxiety and confusion that they experience. It can be a great relief to family to have a Calgary Elder Care caregiver in place that can assist hospitalized clients with a wide variety of care services. Calgary Elder Care can also aide in the communication to other health professionals, to ensure that your loved one gets the care they need.
